Focused and Found Routines
Lasso Gallery at Caliche Co., Amarillo, TX
November 2021

Wind Tide is the sound, visual art, and architectural practices of Andrew Weathers & Gretchen Korsmo as well as the name of their home and studio space, a renovated commercial building in downtown Littlefield, Texas. Despite the interdisciplinary nature of Wind Tide’s practice, the work has a conceptual grounding across media and engages with notions of place, space, and environment and is very often made from found or recycled materials. Wind Tide has released sound work on the Full Spectrum and Never Anything labels and has been featured in Wire Magazine and the Amarillo Globe-News.

Focused and Found Routines is the first solo show from Wind Tide, mounted at the invitation of Kegan Hollis, curator of Lasso Gallery. A journal in a sense, the show collects a very large portion of Wind Tide’s entire visual output from 2020 - 2021. During this time the pair engaged with an approach intended to merge life and art, incorporating found objects, textures, and notions into consistent creative activity. Two streams of work flow in tandem--the focused and the found. The former being the steady, iterative practice in ceramics, and the latter the assemblages, driven largely by whatever objects happened to manifest themselves to the pair. Together they make up a creative effort that is more daily routine than separate practice.
